Writer. Climate justice advocate. Feminist. Mom. Hiker, canoer, gardener.

In addition to writing, Autumn co-directs a climate justice center a San Francisco State University, Climate HQ, where she was previously a tenured professor of Environmental Studies. She holds a PhD in Geography and a minor in Creative Writing. She has taught classes on writing, reproductive politics, and climate change. Autumn has published research articles on climate solutions and has been interviewed about her work on live TV and radio. An excerpt from “The Pirates of Was” won first place in the 2025 Tallahassee Writer’s Association Seven Hills Literary Contest.
Becoming a mom has driven Autumn to write stories about what it’s like to be a parent in this historical moment where we must resist authoritarianism while still helping our kids learn to be kind. She’s drawn to stories that approach dystopian challenges with a sense of play, hope and place.
Her work draws from her experiences canoeing, camping, snorkeling, birding, and hiking throughout the swamps, coasts, mountains, and forests of Florida, Tennessee, North Carolina, Washington, California, Maine, Wisconsin, Panama, and Sweden. She is currently attempting to grow fifty different types of fruit with her partner and two kids.
